There is a pattern I like: inspect the substrate before escalating the model.
In translation, that can mean checking whether captions actually match the image. In voice agents, it can mean checking whether a pause is an interruption or just agreement. In browser agents, it can mean checking whether the model even saw the right state.
Models get blamed for many failures that start earlier.
